8 Movies to Get Excited for in June

The summer continues with a new batch of fun-looking films to check out.

Police Story: Lockdown

Jackie Chan may be getting older, but his Police Story franchise continues. Although the trailer for the sixth installment makes it seem like his past as a supercop has come back to haunt him, Jackie Chan is not playing the same character as in the first four films, Chan Ka-Kui. Just like New Police Story, Lockdown is another reboot, in which Chan plays another new character.

Police Story: Lockdown comes out June 5th.

Patch Town

Can somebody explain to me what Patch Town is about? After watching the trailer a few times and reading some summaries on it, what I’m getting is that it’s about this guy working at a factory where babies are born from cabbages, because that’s the Russian equivalent of the stork, that runs away from an oppressive city and an evil child catcher because he’s secretly an all grown up toy. Yeah, I still have no idea what this is about.

Patch Town comes out June 5th.

Jurassic World

This is the big one. It’s been 14 years since the last Jurassic Park movie, and 22 years since the original masterpiece hit cinemas. Jurassic World is a direct sequel to the 1993 movie, ignoring the two sequels that came after it. The story is set in a functional park, over two decades after the events of Jurassic Park, as a new, genetically modified, highly intelligent superdino breaks loose and wreaks havoc upon the visitors.

Jurassic World comes out June 12th.

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl

After his parents make him spend the day with Rachel, a girl with lung cancer, Greg, who avoids deeper relationships like the plague, discovers the value of friendships. Me and Earl and the Dying Girl won the audience award back at this year’s Sundance, which is plenty of reason to go see it.

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl comes out June 12th.

Inside Out

Inside Out seems like one of Pixar’s weirder projects. Here, everyone’s mind is ruled by five emotions: Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust and Fear, all competing for control while trying to work together. However, when Joy and Sadness suddenly gets transported to a different area of Riley’s mind, only Anger, Disgust and Fear are left to tend for her emotions.

Inside Out comes out June 19th.

Yakuza Apocalypse

In Takashi Miike’s newest film, a vampire epidemic is going around turning whoever gets bit into Yakuza clan members. After Kageyama’s boss gets killed by an otaku martial arts expert, he sets out on a quest to avenge him.

Yakuza Apocalypse comes out June 20th in Japan, but it will hopefully make it west soon.

Batkid Begins

Remember that cancer survivor kid the Make-A-Wish Foundation turned into Batman for a day, which went viral a while back? An inevitable documentary is now coming out about that event.

Batkid Begins comes out June 26th.

Ted 2

Love him or hate him, Seth MacFarlane had a lot of success with his first full-length film. This time around, Ted is preparing for having a kid, but has issues getting accepted by society as a real person. If you saw the first film, you already know what to expect. MacFarlane has a very familiar type of humor, but personally, I have yet to get tired of it.

Ted 2 comes out June 26th.

So have fun with this exciting new month! Do you agree with the list? Are there any films you’re looking forward to that was left out? Let me know in the comments!
