Jared Leto has recently been posting a few work-in-progress pictures of his Joker makeup for the upcoming DC Universe movie Suicide Squad, which is currently being filmed. Now director David Ayer himself has taken to Twitter to reveal the full makeup job.
The reactions on the internet has been ranging between “terrifying” and “terrible” but what we can all agree on is that it’s without a doubt different from any Joker we’ve seen in the past. I can’t ever remember seeing a Joker looking this mentally deranged, and it makes him look more dangerous and unpredictable.
Of course, Leto is gonna have quite the challenging image to live up to, following Heath Ledger’s amazing portrayal in The Dark Knight. But remember when Heath Ledger was announced for the role? People thought it was a terrible casting decision, and yet he ended up winning an Oscar for the role after his death.
So when I see the negative reactions to this, all I can say is this: It’s just a picture. We have yet to see how the character plays out, how he walks, talks, and more importantly, how he laughs. It may turn out great, it might be a big pile, who knows?
Suicide Squad comes out August 5th, 2016, and also stars Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Will Smith as Deadshot, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.
